Fishy

I love my waking dreams, some of the things my subconscious comes up with are so silly.

This morning, I was aware of myself rolling over, and mumbling "Stupid fish..." It was such an odd statement, that it threw me out of my dream, and my eyes snapped open and I went, "Huh? Stupid fish??" then laughed about how silly my mind was.

Yesterday I went to the health food store. I bought what I needed to make sushi rice. I accidentally bought soy hot dogs as well. They're quite salty, and not very good. I didn't even realize that they weren't real meat until I opened the package, and saw that the hot dogs had wrinkles from the packaging in them. Bleh. It didn't say "Soy Hot Dogs" anywhere on the package, and I only discovered what they were when I read the ingredients list.

Anyway, I made sushi rice, though I intended the rice to become rice balls rather than actual sushi rice. I'm not very pleased at the way it came out, because clearly whoever came up with the recipe liked his rice on the salty side, and I HATE salt. The only thing that I ever put salt on is corn. Other than that it is good, it has a nice consistency and if it weren't for the saltiness it seems like it would taste good. I like to wrap my riceballs in sea weed, but as I'm eating it I can't helped but be reminded of fish flakes, since fish flakes are often, well, sea weed.

Time to go write a 30-page screen play, which is due tomorrow. It's a good thing writing is one of my strong points. Perhaps I'll post it in the future for you to read it.

Movember - spread the word!

"The idea for Movember was sparked in 2003 over a few beers in Melbourne, Australia.  The guys behind it joked about 80s fashion and decided it was time to bring the moustache back.  In order to justify their Mos (Australian slang for moustache), they used their new looks to raise money for prostate cancer research… never dreaming that facial hair would ultimately lead to a global movement that would get men talking about a taboo subject – their health.

A Mo Bro starts Movember – the month formerly known as November – clean shaven, and grows a moustache all month long, garnering support from friends and family in the form of donations.  What’s more, a Mo Bro is a walking billboard for the cause as his new look opens the door for him to talk about cancers affecting men – making the moustache a symbol, much like the pink ribbon is for breast cancer.  Each Movember culminates in a Gala Partè in major cities around the globe where Mo Bros dress up to match their Mo, channeling the likes of Tom Selleck, Ghandi and Ron Burgandy, vying for the ultimate accolade:  Man of Movember.

While growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (women who support their guys) form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds and attending the highly anticipated Gala Partés. "

BIG cat.

Every tuesday I get to go to the zoo for $2.00 with my Illustrative drawing class. For the past several weeks, I have not seen the lions a single time. Until today. I was going to paint an environment, and didn't want to be bothered, so I went aaaaaaaaall the way to the end of the lion area. From there, I could actually see inside the lions' indoor area, and could see the male pacing back and fourth. He was huge! But the exciting thing is that the lioness poked her head out of one of the doors and looked at me for a while. I waved at her, then went back to painting. About five minutes later, I saw movement out of the corner of my eye, turned my head, and guess what I saw. The lioness had come all the way across her area right up to the fence to examine me! The terrifying part is that she was completely silent. Thank goodness the fence was there! She was looking right into my eyes, but she didn't seem to think of me as a threat or as dinner. She was just curious about why I had been sitting there so long. I talked to her for a little bit, and apologized for being in her territory. She seemed like she would have stayed there longer, but a loud toddler came running up followed by an equally loud family, and she walked away. But it was a really cool experience!

(no subject)

 Hm, it's been a while.

I am trying my darndest to motivate myself to put all my stuff away since the move. The stuff is surrounding my sewing table. I thought to myself, "Well, if I want to sew, I'll have to put things away!" ...But I just shoved the stuff to either side.

I recently had a fruit fly invasion. I made a trap of vinegar-water in a container, put plastic wrap over it, held tightly with a rubber band, and poked holes in it so the flies could get in, but not out. It has been very effective.

I want to get my place clean and presentable so I can have a house-warming party, as well as make a post for the lifestyle loli's theme this month, which is "The lolita at home."

I found a place nearby that sells very beautiful fabric that is perfect for lolita. Unfortunately, there is nothing below $9/yard there. However, because the fabric is so thick, I believe I can make a skirt with only one yard of fabric. I will have to try it out. I would like to make a fall-themed outfit. I'd like to try to be a little festive.

EGL Banner - I'm winning!??? (so far)

Eeek, I am starting to wish that i had not entered the banner contest! I thought that there would be more entries, but there are only three! Now I feel like there is a lot of pressure, and it would seem that I am ahead in the polls but now I am doing what I always do and I am seeing all of the flaws with my piece! I take it back, I am glad that I entered, but I wish that I had spent more time on it!!! Jeez, what if I do end up winning, and my art will be up there for a whole month!!?? Gah, I don't know if I can take it! Maybe it's just because it will be the first time that anything of mine will be displayed all by itself for such a huge audience!

It's true that I have had/have work displayed in galleries, but that was always with work from a bunch of other artists as well, and it was always something that I had taken a long time on and felt confident in, whereas this piece was more like, "Oh, EGL banner contest? Sure, why not?" and just worked on it in my free time and didn't really think much of - until now!! GAH!

At least I am getting plenty of critique, which is sometime I feel every artist needs, no matter how experienced or good they are. Let this be a lesson to me!! From now on, if I know that there is even the slightest chance of someone else seeing it, I am going to do my best to make it the best that I can! That way I won't feel embarrassed to see one of my not-so-great works displayed for 10,000+ people to see.  ._.

But who knows, #1 is only a little less than 40 votes behind me, so there is still a chance that they could win. I'm weird, I would like to win, but at the same time I sort of don't, but I think that it will be good for me if I did win, because then it would teach me to learn to deal with my art being seen by a lot of people, which I think is my main problem right now.

Oh, in case you're wondering, the poll and stuff is here: http://community.livejournal.com/egl/14097968.html

Neti

I just tried a Neti Pot for the first time, and boy oh boy, that was an experience. It was really easy to do the right nostril, but the left one (which was stuffy today) was really difficult. I've been blowing my nose for the past minute or so, and goodness I had no idea I had so much snot. Well, it does work, at least for a little while. Unfortunately my stuffiness is not caused by anything in my nose, but by the swelling of my nasal passages. However, because of this, I have the tendency to have build up, so I am prone to sinus infections and sinus headaches. So hopefully if I use this regularly, it will help me stay healthier, and maybe over time I will be able to breath through my nose as much as other people. My mom says that I was "born with a stuffy nose" and it's been that way all my life, even with my adenoids and tonsils removed, so maybe the neti pot will make my life just a little bit better.

Fair, Grandma, Wine, List

 Friday
Day time- Had fun at the fair with family
Evening- Had fun with friend Josh. Discovered Josh can play piano. That fact is now added to my list of:
"Why I am jealous of Josh"
At the age of 16, Josh:
Is a Black Belt
Owns a company
Drives a Trans am
Is taller than me
Plays the Piano
Takes classes at the local college
Is a champion swordsman
Is stronger than me

In case you're wondering, Josh is a friend from my old karate group. He was my favorite sparring partner, because I couldn't scare him like I could the other ones. Funny thing that happened that night.

Josh and I: *Sitting in lounge at local college*
Josh: "You should come to the walk-a-thon"
Me: "I live too far away and I'll be in school by then."
Josh: "It doesn't start till 10."
Me: "Jeez, that's late! I'll bet the organizer is like, a rapist, he wants people to run in the dark so he can nab them!"
Josh: O.o / D:< "I'm the organizer!!"
Me: ".......................AHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!!!" XD

Saturday: Hung out with Grandma Jacy all day (11am-8:15pm). We had lunch at the Olive Garden and I tried some wine that I actually went "Whoa that's awesome!" Because it was really sweet! It's called Castello del Poggio Mos cato. Grandma gave me a lamp shade, and my parents gave me an antique table.

Stuff I need to get tomorrow. )

Cake

I have an interview tomorrow to be a cake decorator at a place in the "shnazzy" part of town. Wish me luck! I hope that my allergy doesn't interfere with me getting this job, but I've never really had a problem with bakeries before, and I have my mask for times when I'm around peanut butter. I think I'll be fine.

I wish I had one of these funny lolita cake hats.

Hit my head

I hit my head against the door frame of my parents front door and got a goose egg. I hope I don't have a bruise on my birthday! The swelling is going down, but it hurts to lift my right eyebrow. >_<

First Pic of new dresses!

I know I promised pics, but this is all you get for now because when my love was taking pictures of me this was the only one where I wasn't clearly hot and tired XD. The second dress I think I will hold off on for now, since I'll be showcasing it on my birthday. I'm wondering whether or not I should wear a blouse with it. I'm afraid it will be too hot. But hey, I don't think that anyone in our group of local lolitas is like those other catty you-know-whats-its, so I think I'm going to say - "Hey! It's my birthday and I won't wear a blouse if I don't want to!"

In other news, this dress a bit short, even for me! It doesn't look that way in this pic, but I have to roll up the waist band of my petti, and I have frequent bloomer-peeks! Scandalous! Unfortunately it is also a bit tight in the bust, but loose on the stomach as well, but besides those three things I'm quite pleased with it!

Turtle died :(

You might remember that turtle I was taking care of, the one that my friend gave me that was given to her by a friend of a friend who was moving out and couldn't keep it. Just to recap, the turtle was malnourished, in shock from being left in a car in the middle of winter by his stupid and neglectful former owners, and needless to say, very weak. For a long time while in my care, I was positive he was going to die, because he wouldn't eat a thing. I tried to get him to eat fruit and a variety of different things that our turtles at home ate. He wouldn't eat anything. One day, I heard a crunching sound, and found him eating pellets I had given him (that apparently his first owners only gave him a pinch of every few days >:[ ) I was so exited that I tried to take a video of it.

Today I found him dead in the water. Even though he was eating regularly, he still wouldn't eat very much, and wasn't gaining weight. I wish that there was something I could have done for him.

I'M EMPLOYED!

 WOOOOOOOOOOO!

I am going to be a cutlery sales woman for Cut-co, making a nice hourly wage,  or getting money based off how much I sell, whichever is highest at the end of the week!! RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I'M SO HAPPY!!!!!! I'm not just happy because now can have moniez, but this also means that I get the thing that I wanted even more - I get to stay in Columbus!! YAY!

I think I got the job because they were impressed at the fact that I used to be a tour guide. Not only that, but I dressed nicest, compared to the other applicants, I used a firm handshake, I smile a lot (but not in a silly way) and I have good posture.

My training begins thursday, I'll be trained thursday, friday, and saturday, then after that I get to have practice appointments, which I will be paid for as well (Woo!) Once I'm working, every thursday the group gets together for either dinner or bowling or whatever so we get to know one another better. Fun fun!

Ack! I need to get some more professional clothes! What I'm wearing now is probably my most professional dress. Eeeeeehehehehehe so happy.

Tony and I are going out to a dinner and a movie (which we haven't done since our anniversary O.o ) to celebrate! Yay!

Daily Almanac for 06/06/09

My almanac seems to have disappeared on me for the time being, so I'm sorry that there is no daily almanac post yet today, but this is where it will be when it shows up!

edit: Well, it took so long for it to show up, might as well not bother with this day, since it's over.

Lolita vs. Art

The other day, I got a bunch of fabric. Enough for 7 skirts, actually. I also fabric for three other skirts, so 10 skirts in total. I am planning to make simple skirts and sell them.

It seemed like a good plan at the time, but now I am thinking to myself - Why aren't I doing something in art instead? Isn't that what I am training to do as a career?

Sometimes I wonder, if I hadn't gotten into lolita this past year, would I have done better in school these last two semesters? I am almost certain that I would have improved more if I had been working on my projects, rather than reading forums about this frilly fashion.

Couch, doughnuts, whipped cream.

Tony's inability to get onto the couch in any manner other than plopping down heavily is always causing my couch cover to become disheveled. It is a very pretty cover too, blue with a subtle, swirling floral pattern. I tried to prevent this by pinning it down with safety pins, but that happens is the fabric gets stretched and the pins bend and unhook. I guess I just have to constantly put it back into place. My couch also receives a great deal of abuse from my cat, Marcus. Marcus has no idea how sad his little claw marks in my pretty cover make me.

Marcus on the couch before I got the cover:

Tonight, Tony and I decided we wanted to go out for a late night snack at around 10:15 pm. We went to Kroger. I bought doughnuts and whipped cream. IT WAS AMAZING. I ate two in the car. We went to Taco Bell. Tony ate two chicken burritos, I ate one. We dug up our change, and went to Wendys. I had a small chocolate frosty. Tony had a large chocolate frosty. It was a very nice, low budget date, lol.

Natural beauty treatment

Yesterday I accidentally posted what was intended for [info]pagan_loli on my personal journal, but [info]mutantmint said she was excited to read about the natural beauty treatment, so here it is on my personal journal as well!

Natural Beauty treatment for the skin and hair:

Using Yarrow:

Yarrow extract helps to suppress skin inflammation, strips dead cells from the skin, restrict sebum (oil) secretion, and helps close pores. It can also be used as a hair rinse for greasy hair and dandruff. For chronic eczemas yarrow extract may be added to the bath.

Preparation: Gather the heads while they are in bloom, and dry in the shade in 104º F or 40º C temperature. To make the extract, 5 spoonfuls of the dried herb are boiled in water for 30 minutes. This process is called decocting.

The Communities I'm in, and Why.

[info]challenge_p : This is the monthly Princess Challenge. I haven't participated yet, but I hope to.
[info]collegelolita : Because I keep hoping lolitas will join my school.
[info]daily_lolita : Pretty dresses, of course!
[info]egl : The central hub of the western lolita community.
[info]egl_books : I like lolita. I like books. Seemed only natural.
[info]egl_comm_art : I am an artist.
[info]egl_comm_sales : In case I see something I like/can afford
[info]egl_cooking : Yum!
[info]egl_plus : I am on the high end of average, but the low end of plus, so everything I find is either too big or too small. I want a loli_in_between!
[info]egl_trades : I'm not sure, since I don't have anything to really trade. Um, I'll trade you.. Money!
[info]getoffegl : Originally joined so I could franticly search to make sure I wasn't in there. Started watching it as a way to stay aware of scammers, since they post those sometimes. I also pay attention to which girls are the meanest of the mean for no real reason, and keep a list of "mean lolitas" not to interact with. I mostly lurk, but comment occasionally with slightly off topic things like.. "That would be a cute bathing suit" or "if you have a problem with the products of said-company, you can contact them *here* instead of writing an angry essay about it." But for the most part I stay out of it, except recently with the talk of a new (neutral) lolita blog, because I think it's a nice idea and I might contribute to it.
[info]got_lolita : Also pretty dresses, of course!
[info]lavieclassique : Wow, I spelled that right!? I love classic lolita!
[info]vie_quaintrelle : Oh I sooooo want to live a "lolita lifestyle" but I am such a bad housekeeper, and I don't feel very lovely when I've got a pile of dishes and clothes that need folded. I like to read about, and post little craft projects. In fact, I have one coming up..
[info]loli_valentines : Because they're cute and sweet. ^_^ Maybe someone will post me someday.
[info]loli_weightloss : I'll post here soon. I want to lose some weight before my birthday so I look good in my dress.
[info]lolipetz : For cuteness!
[info]lolita_indies : I like to see pretty, non-brand finds that I might be able to get.
[info]lolitahousewife : I'm not a wife yet, but I pretty much live the same way, so I might as well. No kids yet, though.
[info]macrolita : Some of them are amusing, though it seems they don't do it anymore. (The one I like best so far is the "Sparta" reference.)
[info]midwest_egl : 'Cause I'm there!
[info]oh_egl : 'Cause I'm THERE there!
[info]pagan_loli : I'm not actually pagan, since I believe in only one God, but I have a lot of interest in pagan practices. I call myself an Eclectic Diest.
[info]poor_lolita : I'm poor! :'(
[info]steampunklolita : Steampunk kicks ass, it is my other subculture fashion obsession, so I love the combination of the two!
[info]v_maiden_beth : Victorian Maiden = win!
[info]wtf_burando : It's funny! It's not as funny when it's random offshoot companies that are probably making it as a costume anyway, but VERY funny (to me) when it's the 'oh-so-godly' brands that put out weird ugly stuff. Just goes to show that they're not perfect.
